Do you need ads, or just a better Google Business Profile?

Before you spend a dollar on ads, ask one question: can customers already find you when they search? Ads can be powerful, but they work best on top of a solid foundation. If your Google Business Profile is missing or half-finished, paid ads end up working a lot harder, and costing a lot more, than they should.

Start with the free foundation

A strong Google Business Profile is free and shows up exactly when people are searching for what you offer nearby. It puts you on the map, literally, and gives customers a fast way to call, get directions, read reviews, and visit your site. For most local businesses, getting that profile complete and active is the highest-return first step, full stop.

Make sure your website backs it up

When someone clicks through from your listing, your website needs to confirm what they were hoping to find: what you do, that you are legit, and how to get in touch. If your profile is great but your site is confusing or out of date, you lose people right at the finish line. Get these two working together before you add anything else.

Then layer ads on top

Once your profile and website are solid, paid ads can pour fuel on a fire that is already burning. Local Service Ads, Google Search ads, and Meta ads can all bring in leads, but they perform far better when the place you are sending people is ready to convert them. Run ads too early and you are paying to send traffic to a weak first impression.
